A Women Led Studio
Founded by Hila Hemo, our team pairs design sensitivity with hands on construction management on every project.
Remodels, additions and ADUs for Tarzana homes, from the flats near Victory Boulevard to the canyons below Topanga State Park.
Tarzana began as Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzana Ranch, which he bought in 1919 and later divided into home sites. Today it runs from Victory Boulevard south to Topanga State Park, between Encino and Woodland Hills. The north side holds mid century ranch homes, condos near Ventura Boulevard and the large horse zoned lots of Melody Acres. To the south, streets like Reseda Boulevard climb past El Caballero and Braemar country clubs toward gated hillside communities. Home remodeling in Tarzana covers a lot of ground.
Construction by Maya is a women led design build studio on Park Granada in Calabasas, just a few exits west on the 101. We design your project, handle City of Los Angeles permits through LADBS and build it with our own managed crew. You deal with one team and one schedule, and the people who drew the plan are the same people who answer for how it turns out.
Each service below is designed, permitted and built by one team. Choose a service to see how it works on Tarzana lots, from the flats north of the 101 to the hills near Mulholland Drive.
Tarzana kitchens run hot in summer and often sit closed off from the family room. We open them up and plan ventilation and light for the heat.
From condo baths with shared plumbing to primary suites in hillside homes, we rebuild bathrooms with waterproofing that lasts.
Wide flat lots, including the horse zoned parcels of Melody Acres, often have excellent ADU potential. Hillside fire zone lots need a closer look first.
Many Tarzana homes sit on lots with room to expand. We engineer additions for the soil, the slope and the region's seismic history.
Older Tarzana homes often need everything at once. We replace systems, rework layouts and finish every room under one plan.
With August highs in the upper 90s, shade matters here. We build covered patios, outdoor kitchens and decks that hold up on hillside lots.
Tarzana mixes modest ranch houses, horse properties, condos and gated hillside homes. We plan each project for the house and the lot in front of us.

Tarzana is a short drive from our office, so walkthroughs, inspections and quick decisions are easy to schedule.
Every scope is itemized in writing, so you know what is included, what is optional and what each choice costs.
As a City of Los Angeles neighborhood, Tarzana follows LADBS rules. We draw, submit and track permits for you.
We keep a small project load, so your Tarzana home never becomes one file in a big stack.
Tarzana sits deeper in the Valley than most of the communities we serve, and it shows in summer. Average August highs reach the upper 90s, so insulation, shading, window glass and cooling capacity belong in almost every plan. The 1994 Northridge earthquake was centered in neighboring Reseda, and many homes here have seen repairs since. When we open walls, we check how the house is anchored and braced, not just how it looks.
Lots vary as much as houses. Melody Acres and other horse zoned areas north of the 101 have unusually large parcels, which can make room for an ADU, a guest suite or a long single story wing. South of Ventura Boulevard, hillside lots near Topanga State Park often sit in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone and fall under City hillside rules, which affect grading, access and ADU options. We research your parcel before design so the plan fits the property.
Share your address and what you are hoping to build. We will review your zoning, slope and utilities and give you a realistic first answer before you spend anything on drawings.

Our design build process is the same whether you are refreshing one room or remaking the whole house. Each step has a clear goal and a clear owner.
We visit your Tarzana home, walk the lot and talk through what is working, what is not and what you hope to spend.
Our designers create layouts and select finishes with you, revising until the plan suits your household.
We coordinate engineering, prepare drawings, file with LADBS and finalize a written scope and schedule.
A dedicated project manager runs the site, protects your home and keeps you updated on progress.
We walk the finished space with you, complete the punch list and close every permit.
Tarzana homes often have more potential than their interiors suggest. A closed 1960s ranch can become one bright living space, a deep lot can hold a guest cottage, and a hillside house can gain a shaded terrace with a view across the Valley. We show you what your home and lot can support, then design and build it under one roof.

Tarzana is a neighborhood of the City of Los Angeles, so permits come from the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety. We prepare and submit them for you.
Large flat lots, including many in Melody Acres, are often strong ADU candidates. Hillside lots in fire zones may face City limits, so we review your parcel first.
